2016, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIANTI CLASSICO!

On 24^th September 1716 the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III de’ Medici issued an edict to define the borders of the Chianti wine-making region. This area is included between Siena and Florence. This explains why on the Chianti Classico’s brand that you find on the bottle it is written “since 1716”. To celebrate properly the 300^th birthday, the Chianti Classico Consortium has organized some events that are going to involve the villages of this area.

16th-17th April 2016. Barberino Val d’Elsa: Festival of the Street Food.

15th May 2016. The flagship event is undoubtedly the passage of the 9^th Stage of the Giro d’Italia.

The route starts in Radda and arrives in Greve in Chianti. A stage uphill that rides through Castellina in Chianti as well. On the same days double appointment. On 14^th-15^th May in Castellina in Chianti takes place the Festival of Pentecost, where protagonist is wine. In the picturesque Via delle Volte it will be possible to taste wines produced in this area. Sport and wine lovers you can’t miss this occasion!

 4th-5th June 2016. Radda nel Bicchiere, Radda in the glass. Wine tasting festival of wines produced in this area.

10th August 2016. Calici di Stelle (Stars &Wine). Street food, wine and astronomical observations in several villages of the Chianti Area.

18th September 2016. Gran Fondo del Gallo Nero, bike race that crosses the area of the Chianti Classico: http://granfondodelgallonero.it/

24th September 2016. On the day when the edict was signed in Florence takes place a double event.

In the Hall of the 500 in Palazzo Vecchio (Florence) it will be explained the history of the Chianti Classico. At the New Opera Theatre in Florence there will be a concert in occasion of the 300 years.

4th October 2016. The vintage bike-race Eroica comes back. Who joins the race should have an old bike and wear old-fashion garments. The race is ridden on white roads and therefore very challenging for the participants that come from all over the world!
